I won't say I have embraced my JW past but I have made peace with it. I don't get mad about the things I might have missed out on, and try to experience and accomplish as much as I can from this point forward. What a ride it's been! Mostly good, sometimes scary, but love being free to be me.

Embracing, Not Running From, My Repressive JW Heritage, Finding A Few Things Worth Salvaging
by TMS inyes, we could have been born in an alley in calcutta or with the physical deformities associated with thalidomide.
instead, we were born into or introduced to a repressive, american, religious cult, that shielded us from the warmongering game of chess, the militaristic boy scouts, fornication-inducing sock hops, the twist, as well as the hokey pokey.
we heeded the warnings, avoiding the greedy self-worship associated with masturbation, decadent rock 'n roll and anything preceded by the word "extra-curricular.".

Has anyone been outed by jw health care workers?
by purrpurr incarrying on from audespare thread.
i was wondering how common it is for a sinner/apostate to be outed by a babbling jw care worker?
say you went to your dr because you were pregnant and unmarried or wanting counseling for having to live a double life as a pretend jw... and a jw secretary at the drs office saw this on your file and went tattling to the elders?.

Don't tattle on other people or their personal decisions and you won't have anything to worry about. Sharon got what she deserved. JWs think everything that everyone does is their business.

I'm getting disfellowshipped
by raven inhi everyone, a bit of an update here on my continuing disaster of a situation.. (refer to my previous posts for the full story) my mom met with me yesterday for dinner, it was nice.. however, she brought up the fact that because i live with my boyfriend and how everything has gone down, i will be disfellowshipped.. i think the elders basically have enough proof of this.. due to the anonymous tipper (still have no clue who it was, i live in another town 100's of miles away from my old congregation territory), and my mom telling them.
i'm not sure when they will announce it, or if they will contact me prior.. at this point i feel so emotionally dead i don't care- on the other hand, i don't want to be disfellowshipped because i do not want to loose a relationship with my mom.
that is the whole reason i tried fading out.. .

Raven, your life is worth living regardless of whether someone chooses to speak to you or not. I am not DF but did go through a period of not speaking to my family because they wouldnt respect my choice. We do speak now, but it will never be a tell each other everything relationship. I have zero relationship with my siblings.
please do not play into their emotional manipulation. You can't make someone love you the way you want them to, you will find acceptance and love in other places when you are ready. It will be ok.

Newspaper article on Conventions—why so glowing?
by Londo111 inevery year in dozens of cities where conventions are being held, newspapers typically write an article about the event.
there are exceptions, but usually it is like the articles above.
i would love to see more newspaper articles that did some actual objective reporting, rather than puff pieces.

DY- I have been to plenty of conventions that were not witness related where people were kind and respectful. We didn't all look alike, or dress alike, or even think alike, but were there to learn about something we were interested in. I know it's hard to believe anyone but witnesses can have a nice gathering, even with thousands of people, but it happens every day all over the world.
For the Witnesses it's all a show, at least at the other conventions most people are genuine.

Pretty funny JW story - Daily Mail UK
by Dagney inseriously, you have to read the comments.
just a peek into what the general public think about jw's coming to their doors.. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3608286/father-two-accused-opening-door-jehovah-s-witness-wearing-open-superman-dressing-gown-revealing-manly-shape-cleared-exposing-himself.html#ixzz49h8vohm1.

I am actually surprised the organization didn't discourage this woman from pursuing he criminal complaint. They had to know they would look like idiots in court.
I love the comments on the article though, mainly if you come to my house you see what you see, or don't go to people's houses.

Died Due To Refusing Blood Transfusion
by rrb2016 inwell, last monday my mother, a jehovah's witness since her baptism in 1968 died last week because she would not accept a blood transfusion.
she was 76 and had lung and skin cancer.
i know that the cancer would have gotten her anyway, but she was bleeding internally, and was told that she needs a blood transfusion, as her blood count went all the way down to 3.2 (should be 12-14.

What not to do when trying to fade...
by Nihilistic Journey in1. do not get drunk before a pearl jam concert.. 2. don't register to vote while drunk.. .
3. do not get your picture taken while registering to vote while drunk before a pearl jam concert.
4. do not give drunken permission for the newspaper to run the picture on the front page!.

Yeah - been there sort of. When I still lived at home I told my parents I was going to another sisters house and we were going to the mall. Went to a concert instead, got drunk, made the 11 o'clock news on some worldly guys shoulders drunk off my ass! The funny part is my mother saw it but no one else from the hall ever thought it was me! Lol. -

Maybe I'm Just Ignorant About the New "Anti-Gay" Video

According to the JWs everyone on this site is going be baggage left at the airport right along with gay people and anyone else who doesn't agree with them. They are equal opportunity paradise barring people.
See you all at the baggage claim 🍻

I think the video is ridiculous and hope they get a lot of bad publicity out of it.
But I think I see what some are trying to say. When a baker doesn't make a cake for a gay couple it is discriminatory. The cake is tangible and has been made for many straight couples. Therefore it should be available to anyone who wants a cake.
Paradise is a made up place, that you get to with (ever changing) made up rules. And no one can ever prove that a straight person made it to paradise and a gay person did not.
So it's not okay to discriminate in real world situations, but we can all have whatever made up rules, affecting made up places we want.
Do I have the argument right? Just trying to understand, not trying to start a shit-storm.
